Let’s just start our own blog. Why?
- Because it’s fun!
- You’ll write on a regular basis.
- I’ll add the link to your blog to this blog.
- And meanwhile you can fit in all excersizes into your own copy.
There are several blogprograms. I use WordPress. But you can also use blogger. Or countless others like Pivot, Typepad, Livejournal, MSN Spaces or Blogspot.
Homework
This week excersize is just to start up your own blog. It takes about half an hour. A site without content isn’t worth visiting. So keep this to yourself, until there are at least 5 postings on your very own blog. See if you get the hang of it. Even if it is just dummy-text, just see if you can get your wordings published on line.
If you set up your blog, don’t forget to place the url at the homework section. 
What’s what?
On a meeting I regularly ran in to people who have heard of blogging. But don’t know exactly what it is. Let me tell you, you already visited at least one (mine), and my guess is several blogs. A blog is nothing more and nothing less than a particular form of a site.
Facts
- A blog is in chronological order. The most recent text is the above one.
- You can respond to the texts.
- Most of the times there is a RSS feed that you can subscribe to (I’ll explain RSS in a later stage)
- The author is not a journalist. It is a person, who likes to share his opinion on the subject.
- A blog can be about litteraly anything that the author has a personal interest in.
Definitions
Above you’ve read the characteristics of a blog. The separate texts are called posts of postings. But a lot of time you’ll see that the posting itself is also called a blog. The author of the postings is a blogger.
That’s basically all there is to it.

Coming to you every Wednesday
Let me first introduce myself. My name is Mieke de Jong. I live in The Netherlands. I am 32 years old. Since a couple of months I am a Contentmanager. Before I had my own company. An internet agency. I wrote for several websites and was a concept developer. I invested quite some time and effort to manage this whole Search Engine Friendly Copywriting thing. And other ways how you can attract traffic to your site.
Why I started this blog
I was fed up by working from home. I missed colleagues. There where aspects, like administration and acquisition that I didn’t like of running your own company. I found a job that is challenging. It’s even quite the same as what I did before. Creativity, initiative and knowledge are appreciated.
And that’s actually part of why I start this blog. I got myself specialised in SEO Copywriting. As my own boss I kept track of all new things on the internet. I had to, if I wanted to survive. I specialized myself in communication on the net. And I aim to keep it that way. I want to stay triggered to search for new opinions on Online Marketing. I want to keep that feeling with the market on what’s the next big thing.
Web 2.0
I am a strong believer of Web 2.0. “Knowledge is power” is so BW2.0 (before Web2.0) Sharing Knowledge is Power. If 1 and 1 is 3. What happens if millions of people add up? That’s what makes internet interesting.
I decided to share my knowledge of SEO Copywriting. And of all the subjects I learned about over the years. SEO Copywriting will be a big subject here, but also other subjects that have an overlap, or just my personal interest will be addressed to on this blog.
